I just got lucky and picked up a very nice "Imman. Meffert In Suhl. The auctioner has no idea what the caliber of the rifle is or the shotgun barrel.. So when I get it in the mail I will post what I find after a chamber cast. This is a good tight gun, the only damage is the horn material on the underlever is missing a small section. And that is repairable. [img] [/img]

It is based on the Lefaucheux platform and with the non-rebounding hammer(right?) and iron triggerguard bow would point to it being an early breechloading example. With the single set screw on the right trigger there would have been a cape tubeset or ball was shot in the right tube.

I'm not sure if it has rebounding hammers or not. It was an internet auction purchase. What time period was Imman Meffort building guns? I have seen a nice Mauser model 98 actioned rifle with the same name on the barrel.

Immanuel Meffert hung out his gunmaking shingle in 1839 at Steinweg 17, Suhl. Some give that the concern faltered in 1945 but info suggests that the mechanics limped along until 1958/1959.

Imman. Meffert was founded in 1839. Beside the Suhl specification he made own constructions. The firm was the first in 1932 to build in Dural (Alloy). In 1959 the firm was dispossessed and became PGH " Hubertus"....

I doing some research it seems as though this might have been built just when they really started producing a real cardtridge gun, the shape and style of the trigger gaurd go way back to the pin fire rifles produced by the same firm. And may have been a special order.

It was for an Austrian or Bavarian client. Images of marks underneath may narrow the time frame.

That narrows it down a bit. With the stock cheek piece shaped like it is I thought a German client. I wonder if the German engraver that is on this site could tell who did the engraving? Mike
