Anyone shooting the 6.5 Creedmoor? How does it compare to the 6.5X55 Swed? I love the Swed. but am thinking of a new project gun. Best, Craig

I'm building a 6.5/06 on an '03 action currently. I have a thing for those long round nosed 160 grain bullets. The Creedmore looks interesting in a short action bolt gun. What are you thinking of building it on?

Ha - Must be 6.5 month. I've just sent a FN post war commercial action away to have a 6.5-06 barrel fitted (I have a Argentinian 1909 in 6.5-06 as well but someone saw me coming and although it looks nice the barrel is toast). The FN is going to be fitted into a nice Gordon Cusens "Rigby" style semi-inlet I have.
Personally I'd go for 6.5x47 before the Creedmore, you'll have more mag lenght to seat how you like and the performance of all the short 6.5's is within a gnats whisker.
And that (6.5x47 ) is I think how I will set up a Mauser Kurz action I have being worked on at the moment, I know the more authentic chambering is 6.5x54 Mauser but . . . . the unobtainium of dies, cases etc for this gives much pause for thought.

Steve, I bought a 1904 Steyr action from Whitey, and have a real nice piece of Circassian walnut. Had not thought of the 6.5X47 Lapua, that is interesting. How big a deal it it to re-contour the fingers in the rotary magazine of the Steyr? Any one had any experience? Best, Craig

Craig, If your action has a rotary(spool)magazine, chamber it for 6.5x54 MS. It's a wonderful cartridge and you shouldn't have to change the bolt face or magazine. Just one man's opinion. Mike

I had thought about that also, but was concerned with availability of ammo. Best, Craig

I've been kicking around the idea of another 6.5, and keep going back and forth between the 6.5-06, 6.5-06 AI, and the 6.5x300WSM. I'm not sure which one I'm leaning towards this week.

Hello Craig
Just about everything you read on the 'net (only half of which you should believe - at best) says not to try and use the MS action other than for what it was orgininally designed for - in other words modification will end in tears.
The 6.5x54 MS (which is different from the 6.5x54 Mauser) is a very common cartridge (including dies and components), you can even by it off the shelf down here in NZ !!

Ditto a vote for 6.5x54 for the Steyr. Take a deep breath and buy a sack full of cases and a set of dies, and put the cost out of your mind and enjoy the rifle.
