It was one of a pair or triplet for some fella who was either a pigeon shooter with a loader or a flighted bird fella that worked them over from a central location with the aid of an assistant. Curious that it wasn't embellished.

My 1929 Purdey has #58905/58906 tube set Whitworth #s.
So I think these barrels are contemporary to the action.
The inspector marks are hearsay and should not be used to date a gun IMHO. The k is 1932 indeed.
Interesting to see that Lebeau used Scott-like gas checks instead of disc set strikers.

I agree about the controller of proof mark. It is meaningless. The controller of proof never touched the gun, he ran the proof house. It is like knowing who the plant manager was when your car was made. The proof house has verified the names/marks from 1924 on. Before that, all records and memory are lost. Pete

So is this tubeset in the 60k range the highest set of Sir Joseph Whitworth Fluid Compressed Steel tubes found? By 1930 Vickers is trying to increase their footprint in the Italian market, as well as the global, so I doubt they are peddling Whitworth. Any idea when the last raw tubes were shipped to any maker, including Purdey? WC's seem to be very late.

I am pretty sure that Purdey was using Whitworth steel much later, but don't have a proof in my stable. I guess I need to buy more.  WC-
