OK I finally got around to getting the engineering done on new Parker roll joints. I am having them cut by EDM in 3 sizes over what an original one was. We made them .003", .005" and .007" over size. They will be fit soft, then sent out for color case hardening. Of all the methods I use to put a gun back on face, this one takes the most engineering and investment of capital, the cost to the consumer will reflect that. This is not an inexpensive process, but it will allow you to put that old Parker back on face in a way that is completely undetectable....
just the way the it was done it the Parker factory.

Steve, we really appreciate y'all's effort on this project. It is long overdue and I'm sure you will have a good patronage. Can you release an approximate price?

initially I am going to price this service at 800$. If we can streamline things in time, it may come down. It is a fairly involved and requires me outsourcing both the EDM work and the Color Hardening. It just seemed like something missing from the double gun market which fits in nicely with the direction we are trying to grow.

Steve [/quote Wow- 800$ (or $800??) for a set of Parker House rolls- EDM in the white-- then case color hardened after soft fitting-- what is the AISI analysis of the steel you are using, if I may be so bold here??

1018 to start, might go with 8620 at some point but that will require a bit more machining time as it is only readily available in round bar and would need to be made rectangular for the EDM process. This is not meant to be an inexpensive fix for a shooter grade gun. I do not expect to be doing these on shot out Trojan grade guns. If you happen to own a higher grade gun, you may or may not feel this would be a service that is of value.

That price seems reasonable esp for a high grade Parker to me. I can tell you from experience Steve, that is about what Ken Eversull chgs to rejoint a gun by the laser process he uses. Not sure if I'd want to spend that on a VH 12 though, if you know what I mean.

Seems reasonable to me considering the amount of work involved and to be able to recoup the engineering investment. Well done Steve.

Mr. B., what is it that you object to about addressing looseness from the hook? I'm not objecting to your "project", but it seems a bit much about little. Thanks for replying.

I just recently posted a method we use addressing wear from the hook. I believe you commented on that thread.I have no objection what so ever about building up the hook. This is just one more option that I can offer a client. It is up to the owner of gun as to which method he feels is appropriate to his gun and his budget.

Steve, have you every looked into hard chrome plating the roll on a Parker pin. Seems to me, theoretically speaking, if it could be done and polished it'd be great since chrome has about the lowest friction factor of any metal.
