Keep one thing in mind. All the Ringneck Pheasants we have ever had here in the United States at one time stated out as pen raised planted stock. I once lived on 10 acres close to a put and take operation. Not all the planted birds were harvested each year and I'd sometimes harvest the holdovers on my own and surrounding property the following year. These birds were as wild at that point as any I've hunted in places like Nebraska.

I feel much better when I shoot and eat a pheasant raised in a pen with ample opportunity to fly than when I eat a chicken raised with barely room to move and its beak cut-off to avoid damaging other birds. I still do both, however, since I am not able to eat only truly wild birds shot in fair chase instead.

Beautiful shotgun. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I love the gun, the pics, and your dignified response. Thanks for sharing.

I personally use put and take hunting to start young kids, to please old dogs, and any dang time I feel like it. The negative comments surprised me, but some people just can't help themselves.

I think that's a fine looking double and dog.

Regarding shooting released birds, I never thought of it as "fair", but I never thought of anything related to hunting with any weapon as "fair". It's a legal activity. I do it from time to time. I also use trapped pigeons to train with. Sometimes I shoot them, sometimes a dog will rough them up or kill one. I can't argue that it is "fair" to the pigeons. Don't think it is. I still do it.

If we wanted fair in our hunting we would all be using slings and round rocks to take our game birds and would be reading the sling and spear journal. I prefer a fine double myself.

I don't get what Cherry Bomb's beef is. The liberated birds raised around here are raised from eggs in an incubator for the purpose of dog training or for game preserves, and some for restaurants. Otherwise, these liberated birds wouldn't even exist. And without them, and in this day and age with low wild bird populations it is next to impossible to train and steady a dog without tame birds. Give us a break Cherry Bomb. Your sentiment is ridiculous and 'for the birds'!

Since Cherry Bomb tells us he is not a vegan or vegetarian, I would guess his beef is the kind that comes from cows... domestic, farm raised cows... killed by a slaughterhouse and cut up by a butcher because he helped to create the demand for it. I would guess his leather shoes and belts come from the same non-sporting source. All because he didn't have the time or wish to drive hundreds or thousands of miles to kill an elk or moose to feed himself, nor the time to skin and tan hides to make shoes and clothing articles. But I could be wrong and he might be a mountain man with internet access. If that's the case, I apologize.
