I certainly respect your opinions. While I am OK with farm raised and released birds, I can't feel good about pigeon shoots? Everyone decides what is "fair chase" for themselves I guess.
Perhaps if I lived in the UP or SD I would feel differently about planted birds, they are kind of the "only game in town" for me. Even the "wild" pheasants in PA are just farm raised and released by the DCNR.
I would think anyone uncomfortable with the shooting of gamebirds wouldn't be involved with vintage shotguns.

cherry bomb, lighten up. Call it what you want, when this is the only game in town you do it.

when this is the only game in town you do it. Or you get out of town to hunt. We go 45 miles (minimum) for ducks, sometimes 400+, one-way. We usually go 300 miles for doves and quail, 150 for chukar, 400 for pheasants, 200 for pigs, etc. If I want to stay "in town" I can shoot clays. Just my preference.

I have a job and a young family, finding a morning to drive 35 miles and apparently murder farm animals is tough for me. CHAZ

Been there, done that. When the kids were still living at home, we'd leave at 9:00 on Friday night and get home at midnight on Sunday. Do it when you are young, because it's not as much fun when you get old.

I supervise the second shift and my wife is a teacher, so from Saturday morning until Sunday night is the only time I see her all week. Make scheduling a bit tricky. I get out weekday mornings, but there just isn't enough time from getting the kids on the bus until getting ready for work to drive far enough to get to birds.
I finally found a place with woodcock about an hour from my house last year and the county closed it off as an RV park this year. To be honest I feel worse shooting a wild gamebird whose population is dropping than I do shooting a bird who was hatched and raised in captivity. Do those of you who dislike shooting farm raised birds only eat steaks from wild bovines? CHAZ

Do those of you who dislike shooting farm raised birds only eat steaks from wild bovines? Been a long time since I had a steak that didn't come from a wild pig, elk, or deer, but that's because my friends hunt more than I do and they can shoot but they can't cook. It's not an ethical thing for me, it's just that hunting means finding and pen raised birds don't take much finding. Taste good, though.

You shouldn't feel the need to explain yourself to anyone. Some are blessed to have wild game in their backyards. Some have the means and time to travel hundreds, if not thousands of miles to hunt wild birds. We're not all able to have those luxuries. Keep enjoying what you have.
