Master Double Gunsmith Dennis Potter will be teaching a class on double gun rib repair at Murray collage in OK.

DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN RIB SOLDERING - This five day
class will cover complete stripping (unsoldering) of ribs, cleaning,
tinning and soldering of ribs on double barrel guns. Additionally,
ribs that are partially separated will also be resoldered. Various
tools and techniques will be demonstrated and discussed, along
with holding fixtures, solders, fluxes and bluing techniques for barrels.
Students will be required to bring their own barrel sets to the
class. Neither the school nor the instructor will furnish barrels for
the class. A note on suitable barrels is included in the Tool List. A
separate tool list will be furnished and students will be expected to
furnish their own tools. The school will not provide tools for the
class.
Instructor: Dennis Potter
Cost: $300.00 + $25.00 Lab Fees

If you have any interest in learning how to work on shotgun barrels, this is an opportunity to learn from a gentleman that you should not pass up. Dennis is a member of the ACGG with many years experience. He is kind enough to be willing to share his knowledge and likes to teach in a hands-on manner. I have enjoyed the classes that I have attended. Don't pass this up.

Talked to the school yesterday, if I signed up they would have two students for this class. They need eight for the class or it will not be taught.

It would be less expensive for me if Dennis taught it out of his shop! Travel expenses will keep me out this time around.

This was to be the first year Myrray State would be offering this class on barrel soldering, and I was privledged to be asked to present it. The biggest problem with offering classes like this is advertising/promoting. It is difficult to really promote a class like this as it is a speciality field. Trinidad State offers classes like this, but they have been doing it for a long time, they are a major gunsmithing school. Maybe a forum like this is or would be a better venue to advertise classes like this, but then, is this a commercial venue? Probably could be, or a portion thereof. I think it would have to be a seperate thread category, or it would turn out to be Shotguns News, and no offense to Shotgun News either.

Dennis, I think this is the perfect place to promote classes like yours. Much like promoting side by side shoots. It's all about sharing information about the guns we shoot and opportunities to use them. In both cases, there's a commercial side to it, but I can't imagine anyone objecting to notice of the classes any more than they do to announcements of side by side shoots. Hope you get enough students!

A 5 day course at $60/day/student...........it's pretty darn obvious NO one will be getting rich teaching gunsmithing. Seems more like you guys are teaching out of the goodness of your hearts and for the love of your trade. I'd have to agree this is an appropriate place to let folks know about these classes.
