That one is a product of the Winchester Custom Shop......as the Special Order implies. Here's a closeup of Winchester's custom checkering on that rifle. Not a great picture for detail, but that's a stippled border around the fleurs.

about 6 years ago or so I sold on consignment the Mews rifle pictured on the first Weatherby catalog. I believe it went to Wisconsin. I know it went to a Mews collector. Right after it sold, the son of the man who had commissioned the rifle originally contacted me as he had been looking to buy his fathers rifle back. I put the two gentlemen in contact with one another and never did hear the final result. Interesting builder and I would love to hear the outcome of the rifle I sold.

Can you describe the rifle? I might know something about it.

boy it has been a while. I know it had a German scope mounted on it with a large objective. i spoke to the gent I sold it to after it arrived to follow up and he mentioned the scope being quite valuable. I think it was a Mauser action......
