That gun is a candidate for a research letter if there ever was one! John Liles raises a very valid question--- in addition the gold rib inlay has no "dressing", and the script on the top rib IMHO doesn't look quite right. My guess is a new top rib. Another thing just caught my eye---- the screw in the triggerguard isn't blued.
BTW, research letters on pre-13 guns commonly do not contain much information.
I'd love to see more and better pics and being the skeptic I am I'm betting on a nice refinish. I have a 5E that I know was recased by Marlin in the 50's that has identical case colors.
