The Greener followed me home! What a jewel. It is actually the first English gun I have ever seen in person. I fell in love with it immediately. Plus, the price fit my budget.

Thank you, Mr. Martin. She even has a handful of cast-off! The measurements suit me just fine. I think I'll keep her. I sent an e-mail to Mr. Greener for some information. I am anxious for his reply. Cheers!

Welcome to the English gun collecting bug. You have started with a scarce gun. I hope that you will shoot well with it. Lagopus.....

If you look at at the first opening pic, I can see what looks like a sleeve joint, same on the next mirror shot of same ,about a 1/2" up from forend joint... but on the closer shots, I can't see it.Does anyone else see the line I mean?http://www.pugsguns.com/content/pictures/4699b.jpg.tmp.jpg I realise sleeving damascus is rare b but whats that line? Franc Line?

I also saw those lines. I examined them with a magnifying glass, and could not detect a sleeving line. The camera used for the sale photos must not be of high pixels. When I try to zoom in, the image blurs quickly. The barrels are really nice. I wonder if they have been refinished. The pattern is outstanding. Every swirl or line is plainly visible. I am no expert on composite barrels, but these seem to be in such great condition in relation to the wear on the remainder of the gun.
I just took another look at the lines in question. I have no clue what they are from.

The barrels are each marked with the serial number, the Greener elephant, and a crown over 'BP'. I am assuming this is a Birmingham black powder proof. The lack of any other significant markings tells me that the gun has never been reproofed. Am I correct on this? The barrel hook has been neatly repaired with a dovetailed piece in order to bring the gun back on-face.

Thank you, Dr. Hause. I have admired your website and photos for quite some time and am always amazed at what you have to share with us!
I have exchanged numerous e-mails with Graham Greener. He has been most helpful. When I told him that the only proof mark was the 'crowned BP', he requested photos. He thought that the gun may have been built for Harry Greener, which might account for the lack of a selling price and customer in the original records. This could be interesting!
