Dr. Russell C. Smith was from Berlin, Wisconsin and later Petersburg, Alaska. Dr. Smith was the Patron Saint of the custom gunmaker, having custom rifles made by many of the custom smiths. When Dr. Smith died in 1968 his collection totaled around 400 guns.

One of the principle buyers of the collection was a friend who gave me a copy of the inventory of what he bought. Many that were sold or given away are not on the inventory. I remember there are about two-dozen Shelhamer stocked rifles.
