That is a 4 groove barrel. No doubt about it. I figured at least one of the approximately 22 pictures of the crusty barrel would have included "Barney Worthen", but I guess not.

Monte Carlo stock? That's about as classic a stock as a person could ask for, isn't it?

Picture #24,,if you tilt your screen just right you can see it says something just ahead of the scope on the right side of the bbl...maybe Barney Worthen,,maybe JC Higgins,,I can't quite make it out. Why would you need to see the Barney Worthen marking on a Barney Worthen rifle?

Definitely 4 grooves. Looks like an arsenal barrel.

I normally stay out of public talk of a rifle for sale but have had enough email that many folks are aware.
It was a Barney Worthen now it's a Barney Worthen mess.
Because the ad only said it was marked "Barney Worthen" I wrote the owner yesterday and asked if it was also marked "San Francisco" I'm told that it does. He said they would post a picture of the markings.
Like most Worthens the silver grip cap fell out and someone screwed in back in place.
The butt has been cut and recoil pad added, the two diameter peek for the original buttplate can still be seen.
Originally had a Noske or G&H side mount and the stock was cut for it, now a mess.
I do not see a Worthen bolt lock so I believe that the bolt has been replaced. Would need to ask about better pictures of that area, but not by me.
Everything needs to be hand polished and rust blued, might be worth it if you can do all the work yourself, if you have to pay to have the work done it will be an expensive job.
The front sight is a King which is most likley a replacement.
I don't see many Worthen rifles with a cheek piece or forend tip.

What I see is one land coming to the muzzle at about 1 o'clock, one at about 10 o'clock, one at about 7 o'clock and one at about 4 o'clock. That is four if I am not seeing double. You are right- I need to start remebering to use my "cat eye" magnifiers for such- being a life-long shooter, have 20/15 distance vision at age 71 is a Godsend, but now the close up stuff needs some "assistance" it is a 4 groove barrel indeed. My bad!!
