i was given a 16 ga baker batavia leader from an old army buddy of my dad. it was in rough shape, but i got the metal looking good...but the stock was a mess where it meets the receiver. a buddy of mine has the same gun in 12 ga....his stock is messed up in the same area. they look like they are interchangable. can anybody tell us if they are interchangable and more importantly...does anybody know where we can find stocks? if they are interchangable...we'll use one to make another.

All wood stocks are hand fitted to some degree and sidelocks like a Baker to a lot more degree. If they are both messed up why change?

the wood on the stocks are broken...near where the receiver and the stock meet. it was if they were not properly designed.

It's old wood and someone probably fired too heavy of modern loads in them.

Can you post pics with the locks off?

i'll see if i have the technical know-how.
maybe i can get one of my kids to help. ha.
this would be a great job for one of the new 3 dimensional
copiers...it wouldn't be wood...but at least i could hunt with it. if only i could find a stock intact.

Here is a 16ga. Batavia Leader with new wood being fitted. The factory wood has too much removed for strength plus years of oil and such. Careful hand inletting leaves a lot more wood in critical areas and makes for a much better wood to metal fit.

I made the stock myself mostly to see if I could. It has turned out real nice and is black walnut I cut from a stump over 30 years ago off my Dad's property. So far it has survived several rounds of skeet.

Don't forget to check the chamber length on that Baker...probably still 2 9/16 unless someone lengthened over the years. Mine is still 2 9/16 so I shoot RST loads. I'll try to post a photo of the almost finished stock this evening.
