Von Lengerke & Detmold was a retailer of sporting arms during the early 20th century. They were located in New York, and had a branch in Chicago named Von Lengerke & Antoine. They were bought out by Abercrombie & Fitch in 1928 or '29. Often when we send off for a letter of authenticity for an old double it will be mentioned on the letter who the original consignee was. Very common for it to be VL & D. I have a Fox that was originally sold through them, and another that was originally consigned to Sears & Roebuck. The retailers would order the guns from the factory and put them in stock.
Griffin & Howe has the records for VL & D and Abercrombie & Fitch.
All my best, SRH
