My knitting needle counters on my whistle lanyard seems to work just fine and has for the past 40 years. One on each side of the lanyard, one for grouse and one for woodcock. Grouse is always on the right and woodcock always on the left. Don't ask me why, don't have the faintest idea, but that is the rule at least for me.

Gerry...I could not agree with you more...I hope you see that I got it as part of our vintager getup....as an old saltwater fly fisherman, and when I was director of the Orvis saltwater Flyfishing School on the Cape I told the folks that there is NO keeping count of your fish...but I see there is no problem if a wing shoot wants to do that ...since my memory is going slowly and slowly....and if there is limits..it is not a bad idea. But that is why I got the counter...all show. I admit it.
