I have a 10-20 yr old Orvis Aluminum Doublegun case for which I have lost the locking bar, I think the case may have been made for them by Americase. I have tried contacting Americase and have gotten no where, no response.

I can find steel bars of the same size (survey stake) but bending it has not worked. I have not been able to find aluminum stock to work with.

Any idea on where I can find a replacement or equivilant?

Orvis products are guaranteed for life. I'd send that gun case back saying Americase is unresponsive so they can A. Eat the case and give you a new one, B. fix the case, or C. Make Americase fix the case.

Is this just round steel that won't bend? Have you tried heating it up then bend it?

I put a propane blow torch to it, but the bends never worked out right.

I don't recall seeing an Americase built like you describe. I believe Kallispel cases were among the early aluminum cases with a locking bar thru the hasp latches. They went out of business. Someone picked up the name. But not sure they make the same case line.

I have several Cabela's branded cases with that type of locking bar. Perhaps Cabela's could help source you one.

Any metalworker could make one from what I recall of the part.

If it's like the case I got from Cabellas, making the locking bar should be simple. Stop by a local metal fab shop and talk to them.
If it were here I could have it popped out in 20 minutes. Wanna' swing by?

The posters are right - this really isn't, or shouldn't be, a problem to make. Get the metal red-hot and it'll bend nicely. The rod you find in hardware stores is just fine for this.

It will create enough heat to melt steel and you can get new fuel and oxygen cylinders for it at any hardware store. My only complaint is the oxygen cylinder holds a tiny volume, but normally will get me through the occassional projects I have that require a large amount of heat, such as burning off heavily rusted automotive exhaust system parts or bending a part, anything that requires a large amount of heat very quickly.
