The new Tissot and the Wittnauer I have been wearing since the Vicky broke.

The Tissot looks huge, I think due in part to the face running almost all the way to the edge of the watch. I like it.

Glad to hear that I don't need to worry about removing my watch to shoot. I don't know what killed the Victorinox, but at least it wasn't shooting.

When wrist watches were first introduced they were aimed at women by the retailers. It was considered unmanly to be seen wearing a wrist watch up until the turn of the last century.

It was only after the Boer War, when Army officers had found what an advantage it was to be able to see the time without having to move one's hand to a pocket, that wrist watches started to gain in popularity amongst gentlemen. Of course, that really gathered pace fourteen odd years later.

And now we have it pointed out to us 'old guys' that we should think of ditching our wrist watches and fumble about with our cells. Well, our cells are not glued to our palms like most young folk. We appreciate the ease with which we can see the time from a decent analogue watch on our wrists!

Plus ca change!

Tim

PS Forgot to say that in some thirteen years as an infantry officer, firing rifles on a very regular basis as well as some considerably heavier hardware, my Omega never gave up on me - and it is a wind up mechanical time piece!

We had a cell phone, for a while. Got rid of it. I'd sooner leave the house without my pocket knife than my watch. I am aware that the Ronald McDonald watch that comes in a happy meal keeps more accurate time than my old school selfwinders, and I simply don't care. A finely crafted Swiss watch isn't that much different than a double gun, and I still have a few of those, also.

Ted

I have a nice pocketwatch that belonged to my great-great grandfather. Still bares the delicate engraving CLD, looks very close to my initials of CCD. The story I was told was that it was a gift from a girlfriend that ended up NOT being his wife. That is why the watch is like new after 110+ years, his wife wouldn't let him carry it. The first time I carried it I hit the corner of a table passing by and broke the crystal. It is repaired and all is well, but I can't bring myself to use it anymore.

Since I started my current job at age 22 I haven't been a day without a wristwatch. My cellphone will never replace it.

My Seiko Automatic Diver's 200m watch has been worn for over 20 years constantly, has suffered recoil thousands of rifle and shotgun shells and still keeps perfect time. All the red on the bezel has faded to nothing. Best watch I ever owned

I am not a watch collector and I like old stuff, so I am still wearing my Viet Nam era Omega steel Seamaster 120 that must be wound every day. It has been to the shop a few times in the last 45 years to start her up and more than a few times for crystals. It took me a few years to figure out why the new crystals had paint on them almost immediately after replacement, but I finally figured out that it was the low skeet house wall. Yes, I wear it while I shoot and it doesn't seem to bother it. I switch it to my left wrist if I think about it. I have a few family watches, but have always worn the Omega except for a few years when it was down. Is it unusual to have a daily wearing watch still be reliable after 45 years? My Seamaster hasn't had a sealed crystal on it for at least 30 years.

This is what I carried while I was working with munitions

It is small, but did not get in the way of operations
