Raimey,
"A Strasbourg" means "in Strassburg"
That would be Strasbourg, capital of Alsace. German from 1871 to 1918.

John in Canada, probably better not to fire it!

Pete,

I've shot better than 5,000 low pressure nitro loads, RST and my equivalent reloads, through my 1866 Joseph Lang that was re-barreled in 4 bar crolle Damascus about 1872 by James Woodward. I like shooting the old girl, even with her non-rebounding hammers. Even we old ones deserve continued use as long as we're in good condition.

Got out the magnifying glass but the 2 ovals are just too washed out, you can barely make them out close to the breach end.
- The barrels have the SD in the same place as the gun in Raimey's first post.
- There is a #7 on several action parts, the serial # 8135 on the action flat.
- The gun in Raimey's post looks like the action is plated, if so would that be nickel?
- How common are examples of E. Bernard, just curious? --- John

E.Bernard is quite common.
There are a few for sale such as here .
There was a Bietz for auction in Switzerland.

While I was one finger typing more posts showed up. It's not that I wouldn't shot the old thing, with proper loads, I just likely won't. Got too many choices already.
That is a nice old gun Pete, a little "fancier" than mine. It looks a lot like the action on my T. Woodward that I'm cleaning up and repairing the stock. I'll take some pics. when it's in progress and back together. --- John
