Thanks for the postings. Gun should be 8x58Rmm Sauer not 8x57Rmm 360. I think the 360 has a neck. the Sauer doesn't. Thanks ellenbr will try to email some pic's to you tonight or tomorrow.

2nd proof effort in 1904 after Suhl, so that more or less confirms my theory on the transition time. S. Schilling, Axel doesn't fancy Sylvestr but I don't think he can prove otherwise. He uses some outlandish tale of a German not naming his child after the pope or something. At least the solid projectile tube was sourced from the Schilling forge in Suhl. Josef Wenisch vorm./drive H. Roedl in Prag. KInd Regards, Raimey rse

I was attempting to track down the origins of the Blitz/triggerplate action and in Germany the culprit might have been Robert Scheer of Sommerfeld, Kremmen Crossen, Brandenburg under Gebrauchsmuster 42590 on June 15th, 1895, not being a DRP. About this time(1888-1892), a Gus Karl Leimer was an apprentice there. Of course there were other possible origins like John Dickson & Joseph Maréchal of Liege. I wonder if any were manufactured prior to 1895?
Kind Regards,

Well, I may have a hitch in my get-along, but I have seen reference to Robert Scheer of Sommerfeld being a source but thanks to Günter I now know that Gebrauchsmuster 42590 is for a pop-up sight:
72(Klasse) - 42590 sighting apparatus for Drilling-Hunting Rifles, where the sight is adjusted (moved) with a U-shaped pushrod next to the top rib. Robert Scheer, Sommerfeld, Frankfurt a/O (an der Oder) 15/6 1895
There may be an earlier DRP or Gebrauchsmuster for Scheer.
But Franz Luck has Gebrauchsmuster 45592 which does involve some lockwork. I wonder if he or Gebrüder Luck is the owner of those odd script Ls?
72(Klasse) - 45592 self-cocking three-barrel gun with removable locks, where firing pins are situated in line between triggerplate and (Studel – part of the lock) and are pushed forward by integral hammers Franz Luck for Gebrüder Luck, Suhl i. Th(üringen) 8/8 1895
Kind Regards,

Hi ellenbr. Thank You for all the research. I have learned a lot on this site in just a few days. Will have to post names of other guns I have sometime. Question. You state "Gebrüder Luck is the owner of those odd script Ls?" Are you referencing the L's on rifle barrel (looks like one may be partly under a proof mark)? Also found a few more pic's that may be of interest and will email.
Thanks Again wknitro

wknitro: I believe that script L denotes effort by one of the Boys Kelber. There are other odd gothic or script Ls like those seen on Sauers that I had in mind. Prague Nito proof along with final datastring for 1904. Looks like the Praze preliminary data string for 1904 along with the weight of the tubeset in grams. Kind Regards, Raimey rse

Thanks for the posting ellenbr. I like the sub scrips under pic's. Looks like you have this gun really figured out and just trying to put it in it's place in the big picture of history. The info you provide about it will always stay with it. Researching history is like a puzzle and each gun is a piece. The more pieces you have the more complete the history and the clearer the picture. I can not thank you enough.

I don't know that we are at the bottom of the search effort as the actual maker hasn't been identified. But he was up to serial number 4000 in the late 1890s.
