I have a Webley sidelock with a dented barrel. Shown between one and 2 inch marks on tape. Wall thickness is good with a minimum or .028". It is a long dent (about an inch) that runs somewhat diagonal. It is visible looking down the bore. I tried to lay a straight edge along it to give an idea of depth and it looks like the barrel is pushed in beyond the obvious part of the dent. Probably only a few thousandths and difficult to see but when you run your hand down the barrel it is very noticeable. So my question is, how hard is this type of dent to raise? What are my primary concerns in raising this dent as in risk of greater damage? Thanks.

Dose not look to be to serious. However I would strongly recommend you have it done by some one who is experienced in this type of work as it is easy to make it worse .Others will no doubt give many names of competent people .

Thanks for properly posting those pics. I will also heed the advise about having a pro take care of the dent.

Thought I would give a quick update. I took the gun to a well respected gunmaker and his advice was to send it to Kirk Merrington. Kirk received it yesterday and has the dent out. He said it was a bad dent due to the length as it was more of a crease. (which is what I suspected) I measured the barrels at .027" at the dent which Kirk confirmed. I am now having the barrels restruck and the engraving picked up so they should look like new when all is said and done. I am sacrificing .002-.003" to have all traces of the dent removed. I will have enough wall thickness left though I liked .027" better! I will post pics of the finished barrels when I receive them.

The barrels came back today from Mr. Merrington. They measure at .025" where the dent was just as he said. The engraving looks great though I do not know who he sent them to for that part of it and the reblacking looks perfect to me. I am ecstatic with the job and very pleased to get them back so soon. I will add some pics of the barrels later but here are a few of the action and wood.
