I have a question about puting a non military sporter stock on a 1898 Krag.

I have heard that the Krag needs a barrel band on the forearm of a sporter stock because of its guard screw arrangement.

My question is, should this be a tight fit on the barrel and bedded tightly in the stock or should there be some tolerances of some sort?

Many thanks for any help from others on this.
