Yeah, lifted that off of Andy Griffith years ago when Barney was attempting to stump Opie on phrases like she sells sea shells on the sea shore and the like. I believe the rubber baby buggy bumpers was the one that Andy stumped ole Barn with. I'll have to watch it again to see.

Kind Regards,

Watchknut, I have inspected that gun, find the condition a bit marginal, and remember the bores to be unacceptable. It is not a pretty gun. I also remember the gun being a 30" gun. Where do you plan to see the gun next? I have seen it in Virginia. The prices the owner asks are ridiculous. I hope you can get him to move.

Eightbore, thank you! I was going off memory as I have not seen the gun in over a year, and never gave it a really thorough inspection. This makes my decision really easy, as I will take a pass and continue to look. I appreciate all of the input.

Don't let my interpretation sway your decision. If you like it, go for it. If the bores are good, the gun may have potential at the right price.

Note, too, that German guns tend to have a little more meat in the barrels. So, if whatever might be wrong with the bores isn't too far advanced, it'll probably stand up to some cleaning-up.

As I recall, there isn't much meat in those long thin 28 gauge barrels. I have done a lot of research on William Wagner and would love to own this gun, but found it unacceptable on face to face examination. I will try to give it another look.

Adam Stinson is offering a British SxS 28 gauge over on the FS forum for very little money that does not have any of the concerns here over the Simpson.

It might be worth a look.

RCC, I saw that last night and what a great little gun! Understanding that the Simson is an investment of $4,500+, I think that I am better saving my money and finding the one that is 100%. Thanks.

Fair enough - I was positing a generality, but an in-hand specific observation rules over the generality any day, of course.
