Be careful. "Restoring" a gun is a great way to wreck it, and the vast majority of gunsmiths out there will wreck a gun like that.

I would try cleaning it up first. Get all the dirt, grime, & rust off of it. Then decide what to do from there.

BTW: if you're taking that gun to someone who doesn't know what the original finish was, you're taking it to the wrong place.
