I notice that the gun has the "splattered white paint malady" that occurs on just about ever klunker I buy. I've yet to figure that one out.

Shame it got so rusty, ( I gotta love jOes line 'bout that) but with careful cleaning it will prolly come up descent.
But it doesn't seem to be too high of a grade, nor or does it shout Daly to me...am I wrong here?
I doesn't seem to have the distinctive look of other Daly's that have been pictured here.I'm sure it was a nice enough gun in its day
I don't know bugger all about them,except I love the look of those high grades diamonds ?...that Ken G & others post about
Is it a high enough grade too spend much on though?, I have no idea.
Gently clean & see how she looks,get her checked out before you pop any caps...and let us see the After shot's please?

Well, it does shout "Daly" to me. The squared off top lever is a Lindner Daly feature as well as the wide forend shape and the rib lettering. The buttplate is also a bit of a clue. Mr. Dallas can send his prize down here to me in MD and I will clean it up for him.

Are you serious? "Charles Daly" plainly shows on the side of the receiver, buttplate has "CD" in scroll, and top rib marked "Charles Daly" as well. JR

I think I made it clear that I don't know much about them,it just didn't look much like those fancy ones that I can spot right off without looking for the name.
Mr Roberts, I am able to read,but I was talking about the style of the gun, not the words or letters on it.My bad for asking a question about gun style & grade

I think that gun has a lot of potential. The Murphys and steel wool is good advice though I think I would try some 2-0 wool to start. Go slowly and be patient. This sort project takes time and a lot of elbow grease something a owner can do and something many gunsmiths are not willing to do as it is not cost effective for them. After you get the gunk off you can start thinking about talking to a gunsmith. If there is pitting in the barrels that could sink the project. Doubles are all about barrels. Use light oil and steel wool on the outside of the barrels, get some blackboard white chalk and rub over the barrels after a rub with the oil and steel wool. This will pick up the rusty oil that could get in the pores of the metal and discolor the pretty Damascus

Take it to a guy who knows old doubles. Have it stripped and cleaned. I bet that gun will clean up pretty good. A solvent bath followed by and ultra sonic cleaning and you may be shocked what is under all that surface grime and rust. The paint will most likely be the biggest issue.

Best thing you could do is sell it for a few hundred bucks to someone who cares about it.....it's clearly evident from seeing it's current state that your Grandfather didn't give a dam about it. Concur though, to his credit, not giving a damn included not opening it and therefore leaving the screws unbuggered.
