While a bit OT I want to disspell a myth about sending guns to CA. It really bothers me when I see guns for sale and a refusal to sell to CA. When I see it on some gun listing site I write it off to some paranoid Bubba.
Lately I have seen it he from members who I know are really good people. So I want to clear the air a bit.
1st off, if you are a private party you can send the gun without doing anything or giving anyone your info. It just needs to be sent to and FFL who is fully licensed in CA. here is a FAQ from CA DOJ Website.
"2. I am not an FFL but I want to ship a firearm to a California FFL. Do I have to obtain a Firearms Shipment Approval number before shipping a firearm to California?
No. The requirement to obtain a Firearms Shipment Approval number only applies to holders of valid FFLs."
Only FFL's must do a deal verification shipment letter. What you are doing is verifying that the dealer you are sending it too is still current on the DOJ list. (A revenue generating tool). All That is transmitted to the DOJ is the number of guns you are shipping and your name and the receiving dealers info.
To log onto the site, you have to register with your FFL. You do not need to give them any other info. So don't freak out!
Check out the FAQs at
CA DOJ FAQs I do acknowldge that some dealers will not accept a gun from an FFL becuase if the gun needs to be returned or the buy in CA does not pass a background check, returning the gun becomes a hassle.
As a side note All bet no one know that on a long gun sale, the DROS (background check) does not have any gun info on it and after 30 days the DOJ is required to remove the name from there records. I have been audited multiple times by DOJ and know that it is true.
Another side note.... I had large theft of my private guns from my home over 7 years ago. 21 guns stolen. I had the serial numbers of them all. Gave them to the police and they went into a nation-wide database. So far I have recieved 7 of them back. 2 from the local police and 5 from the Syskiou County Narc Squad. The point is, not all beuraucrates in CA are bad.
I am worried about what is down the pipe in CA with the Dems controlling a filibuster proof majority in both houses.
The point of all this is CA needs you support. Don't give in to them. Giving in reminds me of a story about a locally famous basketball player who had a sporting goods store in Fresno. (He was a true BUBBA.. He and his friends would drink at the counter and bad mouth everything wrong in the world.)
When the requirement for non-toxic shot became effective in CA, he was interviewed on TV and in the paper... on TV he was seen shaking his head no (so his fat jowls jiggled back and forth) saying him and his friend were giving up duck hunting if the had to shoot steel shot. (Not a smart man...)
Shortly thereafter, his business dropped and he had to close down.
I no this is a bit of a rambling post, but there is some important info and lessons in it all. I hope you agree and don't give up the fight.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jerry
PS I really do mean respectfully
