Jack, not sure what you mean by the cross pin wants to fall out.
Do you mean the 1/8" pin that is in the barrel lug before the rotary bolt? On some this is invisible and you sometimes have to use a dye to find it.
To check if the spring is broken, have the barrels upside down and rotate the pin so that the extractor moves out and then push on it while holding the pin and see if you feel resistance.
To take the rotary bolt out, drive pin out in barrel lug, push slanted plunger in and then rotate pin to I believe 12 clock, and slide joint check out. (been a while since I took one out)
