The Lefever Arms guys had a wonderful display at the Las Vegas Antique Arms Show! The AH Fox Collectors Association set up a display of Fox guns. Researcher was first at the show setting up and last to leave. Fox Associations President Paul joins Researcher and another Fox guy. Jon Hosford using his dent removal tool to restore barrels.

I paid full price for my Hosford Dent Removal Tool and was happy to do so. I recommend this tool and also the Hosford Barrel Wall Thickness Gauge. Both tools are quality built and easy to use!
I also recommend joining and supporting one or more of the vintage SxS associations to include but may not be limited to; Parker Gun Collectors Association AH Fox Collectors Association LC Smith Collectors Association Lefever Arms Collectors Association
If there are others please post them up!

Gerald,
Please google search for Jon Hosford and you will find his website. I would not want to be accused of marketing!

Jon personally taught me the proper use of my wall thickness gauge, which is not of his manufacture. How about that.

Did anybody take a photo of that rotating stand that Jon Hosford built that was at the head of Steve Barnett's tables? I've never seen anything like it.

I'm sure the dent remover & bbl wall gauges were thrilling, but did anyone see any interesting GUNS at the show?
What does Mr Hosford have for guns in those cases behind him?

I suspect this dent remover works very well. However; I have one double that needs a dent removed and $600 would only be worth it to a pro gunsmith. Is there anyone in the Scottsdale,AZ area who does dent removal? Jim

OWD If you have never been to the Las Vegas show you are missing a unique opportunity if you are a fan of classic doubles. I find a missing piece of my American classic collection every year. This year it was a Grade 2 Colt 1894 in high condition. Our Lefever display this year included 6 A grades from 1878 through 1919. There were too many high grade European guns to count. Contrasted to other shows there are no tables seling jerky, rubber tomahawks, or camoflage gear. There are no black guns there. More or less the wheat has been separated from the chaff ahead of time. I don't believe Jon Hosford routinely sells guns. He was in front of another dealer's table.

I've been, but years back when it was a bigger show.
Other than the Colt, anything really special?
Thanks for the info.

Like I said I am only really interested in classic American Doubles, and even given those I am only looking for Lefevers and any gaps where I do not have at least one example. A nice Lefever 12g C grade changed hands. There were many high grade English and other European guns that are nice to look at but way above my price range. I have no idea whether they were reasonably priced. There had to be at least 100 Parkers and 50 LC Smiths some of which were very nice but I already have one of each so I didn't pay a lot of attention to the prices. Not as many Foxes and only a couple of low grade Lefevers besides the C grade and a 7D crossbolt that was over priced. I searched in vain for a high grade Remington 1894. There were a couple of low grades that were reasonably priced. By and large I would say the attendance was down a little bit from last year, but I have no data to back that up other than my impression. I would also say that the prices at the independents and little dealers were in general much better than the inflated prices we are seeing on the internet sites. The big dealers are what they are.

You would be surprised at the funny looks I received when I asked if I could photograph their guns! I also got the, "Don't put a photo of me on the Internet." There were many nice SxS's, English, European, and American. There were also as many nice Winchesters and Colts! I saw a very high condition Parker AHE 10 gauge magnum with straight grip and 32" barrels. The price was somewhere near $55,000. Ouch! PS: This is a link to a You Tube video of the Hosford Barrel Wall Thickness Tool. Everyone who buys old shotguns needs one of these! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jQZn4kohH4
