Doc Drew, that modern .270 Win. barrel looks like it may have been sourced from Damasteel. I got to look at a Turkish barrel like the first two pictures. I thought amazing work for time period. Probably better to just appreciate, but the one I saw looked like someone might use it as the center of a historical recreation. Looked plenty sound for light black powder loads.

I think you are correct Craig http://www.gobec.at/damastlauf.htm

Here's the Damasteel Purdey

Drew:
That John F. Dittrich peddled example might be a L. Berger variant. I'd guess German sourced. Any specifics on it like rifle or scattergun? Also I am trying to get a handle on how many rifled pattern welded tubes might be floating about and if anyone in this viewing area has handled any? If so, how many.

Kind Regards,

Drew, do you have any details on the construction of the .270 barrel? Apparently, this Damascus is capable of containing over 55,000 psi chamber pressure.

Sorry Keith, I know nothing about that new fangled Damasteel stuff, but here are some links

I think it's a good thing to have the option of the Damasteel products, but they just don't look right to me. I'm sure it would cost, but the large twist with lower layer count seems to miss the look of the tight twist multistrand classic look. I'd also think it would be tough to maintain a smooth consistent bore using high pressure loads.
