I think that this board has cost me several thousand dollars in extra wood cost. Not six or seven years ago I was perfectly happy with my collection of Black walnut blanks. A little crotch here, a little crotch there and I was content. I had Claro fiddle for automatics and black for doubles and rifles.
A hundred blanks and I was done buying or so I thought. Then I was forced to face the fact that English just was getting more and more what I wanted to use and work with. I did not burn those Black walnut blanks in the fireplace but I did sell off several dozen to make room for the new English blanks that I bought and added to the wood pile.
I went from paid in full to buyer in a year. As many know, nice Black Walnut crotch stock cost a lot less than a high grade English blank. ANd I did not buy any plain balnks. Why bother? Now I have to wait for this wood to age. Thanks guys. I owe you all one because of these great pictures of nice looking English walnut.
