the God Given Right to keep and bear arms. Quick reminder that the Second Amendment in the Constitution, not the Bible.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Call them "Natural Rights" if you want, but these Rights were not "Granted" from Government, they were pre-existing and simply enumerated in the Bill of Rights.
Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.

Bless you Postoak! I fear that there will be trying times going forward. It will take cool heads and a firm grip on civility to ride this one out.

Call them "Natural Rights" if you want, but these Rights were not "Granted" from Government, they were pre-existing and simply enumerated in the Bill of Rights. Hear, hear! Government does not grant you rights. It only limits them or takes them away. A free man is born with rights. We have rights because we are free, not because we have been granted them by some government. Never forget that government exists at the people's behest. When it no longer serves it's useful purpose it will be "restructured", by the people, so that it does. SRH

I agree Stan that a free man is born with rights. What scares me is if government will be re-structured by the wrong people. That's when we, the people who are born free, have to stand our ground.

I appreciate the article and the thought and have given it much thought as my mother, God Bless Her, expected, demanded good manners. That said I recall plainly that manners and civility should not be a weaknesses that allow others to take advantage.
The danger in practicing civility is that those who are not practicing it will play you and ravage you while you stand with your hand held out.
They will tell you what they think you want to hear about respecting our right to bear arms, or believing running up the deficit is unpatriotic then actively go against their words in every action.
I do not believe that everyone in favor of increased gun control is the spawn of Lenin. I would like to believe that there is something we can do to improve our laws. I actually do wonder where the line is for high capacity rapid fire weapons is. Most of us can live with the current restrictions on automatic weapons. I have to ask if we could not, but then I consider the other side pushing the argument.
I wish we could turn back the clock on the liberalization of miltary style gun importation and the poliferation high capacity semi auto pistols and big rifle magazines, but do not believe we can undo what the NRA did in the 80's.
My brother is a dyed in the wool endowment member and we parted on the issue and agreed to disagree about the effect of AK's back then and we remain hunting buddies and friends. In recent years I finally felt the need to own a service rifle and pistol and trained my son, soon to be commissioned, to use both well.
The current political climate is not a good one in that I cannot believe the gun control clique can be trusted to stop at any point. Whatever good intent I might have, they will only take and bulldoze to more.
A great analogy is chemical abortion. I was told I had to tolerate people killing their own children which they have defined away from the status of human beings. Now they insist I must actively participate and support. They even want my church to join and to violate long held beliefs. I have been a tolerant person my whole life. I have tried to look at the views of others with some fairness and understanding. I have trouble believing those outside this board in certain political parties are dealing honestly or sincerely as I am. They have not shown it at all lately. They do not respect others. They do not possess the tolerance they want from me.
As much as it pains me I am leary of trusting them at all.
I admit that character attacks on this board over items unrelated to gun control bother me. As for discussion on this board I will try to respect views and opinions and I will try to never attack poster's character or person.

the God Given Right to keep and bear arms. Quick reminder that the Second Amendment in the Constitution, not the Bible. I'm going to disagree with you here. As far as I, and I believe millions of others, are concerned the U S Constitution and the original Bill of Rights is the secular equivalent to the Bible and 10 Commandments. It is the overall universal law of the land for the United States and those that disagree are the secular equvalent to heretics. Jim
The 2nd Amendment IS an unalienable right.
