This is along the track I expected to travel. Leo, I appreciate your insight and will look more closely at those pieces I suspect to be "period" guns. I truly enjoy fine engraving and I realize it often doesn't get the full attention it deserves, when a gun is resold.
I've noticed, on Boss-type engraving, it would be simple to hide one's mark, if you will, within all the roses and scroll work and have often wondered if the original craftsman would immediately look in a certain place to identify the artist or perhaps see if his original work has ben embellished.
I will give an embellished gun a closer look, from now on, and see if I can identify its artist. Thanks for the usual great information.
Regards,
Charles
