I had some time to think about Joe these last few days. He was a heck of a great guy to me. He sold me a low wall action that became my favorite rifle, along with a lot of suggestions and advice about how to go about building it. But what I will miss most about Joe is that, while he knew and loved traditional rifles, he could also think outside of the box. He understood that what passed for "proof" of concept in shooting was hardly adequate and he was always interested to learn and try new things.
Yes, he was special indeed, and he will remain that way in my memories.
