I just saw a report on the Shiloh Forum that Joe Harz of Clinton Mississippi known on this forum as J. D. Steele passed on 12/11/12.
Not the most subtle person and never at loss for an opinion but basically a really decent man and as good as his word. Joe was making a G&H style Springfield for me. I suppose I'll never see it now but I'd rather have Joe back.

Joe is a person I have the utmost respect for. He was a really super guy.
Joe, I'll miss you for sure, but say hello to Ben for us....

We traded a couple of items and he was very generous and quick to impart his knowledge.

This is sad news, I have had a few dealings with Joe over the years and he was always an honorable man. Rest in peace

Joe Harz... He was unfailingly Generous. He Trusted you though it was his first time meeting you. He was loyal to me on here, when it was unpopular. He will be missed...He was my Friend. It is not titles that honor men, but men that honor titles... Joe Harz Gunmaker. REQUIESCAT IN PACE --Later Amigo Jerry PHOTO OF JOE

Joe was making a G&H style Springfield for me. Joe and I had been in contact about an old model Lyman 48 rear sight and various parts for a G&H side mount which I have lying around. I expect they were for your rifle. I will certainly miss him. Bill Warren

Joe was making a G&H style Springfield for me. Joe and I had been in contact about an old model Lyman 48 rear sight and various parts for a G&H side mount which I have lying around. I expect they were for your rifle. We were planning a visit sometime in the immediate future, to give him an opportunity to rummage through my parts boxes. I will certainly miss him, for although I never laid eyes on him, nor even talked to him over the phone, I felt as though I knew him. Bill Warren
