Just acquired a rather nice Ferlach proofed 24 gauge hammer double apparently made by Halwa Sandor in Budapest. Photos are attached. Anyone ever run into this gunmaker before...? Nice condition and weighs 5.2 lbs. A WWII bring back that apparently hasn't been fired since as the owners didn't know what gauge it was....

A very nice Ferlach made gun. Quite uncommon in this gauge. I would say from circa 1930.
With kind regards, Jani

Will post some photos of the water table. Yes, my guess is 1928-1940 era for it as well.

A short research indicates that Sandor Halwa or Halva (1882-1939) was a well known Budapest gunsmith (puskamüves).
With kind regards, Jani

Thanks, very happy to hear that M. Montengrin! Fascinated by the Puska part of the word as it was clear from my Russian language training what that was. My guess is that it was one of his later guns from the proofs and his dates.
By the way, where are you in Slovenia...it's such a wonderful place...spent some time in Tolmin and Kobarid chasing trout a couple of years ago and should come back soon!

Sam, I live in Celje which is some 2-3 hours drive from Tolmin and Kobarid, to the east. Soca/Isonzo is special for trout but our Savinja is not bad either. Let me know when you come over next time! - Jani
