I recently bought an Ithaca/SKB, 20 gauge. I patterened the gun yesterday and while the right barrel shoots to where I point, the left barrel shoots low, and to the right. I'd guess center of pattern is 8 inches off at 16 yds. Is there a way to fix this ? Could a good barrel guy install choke tubes or open the choke in a manner to fix this ?

Contact Briley, they can bore eccentric chokes (choke tubes IIRC) to correct POI issues.

Guys like Mike Orlen and Kirk Merrington can change the POI of your fixed chokes without installing choke tubes. You will probably lose a bit of the current constriction. If that is a problem, you can also fix POI with choke tubes or a permanently soldered tube in the offending barrel.

Cole Gunsmithing corrected the POI for one of my guns by slightly boring out the fixed choke too.

Thunderstick,
There has been a recent thread on this. This adjustment is easily done by a gunsmith and several of the do-it-yourself guys on this board described the procedure.
My local gunsmith has done this for me many times.

Correct me if I'm wrong but won't altering chokes will only correct POI at a specified distance? It he's 8" off at 16yds. and a gunsmith corrects it so it's dead on at 16 yds. won't it be off to the other side over 16 yds.?

Yes, you're wrong. The barrel centers are only 1-1/4" apart(app.), if he makes it dead on with both barrels at 16 yards, it will be fine all the way out as far as you want to shoot. SxS guns should be together(within an inch or two) from the muzzle out to infinity.

Of course, thanks Jim. I ought not to post after bedtime, the brain is slower at days end.
