Rgs022, I assume you are talking about the Hamburg, Pa Cabelas'. I was just over there and they had 3 grades of Lefevers. G, F, and E. The G grade wasn't so nice, had a metal repair along both sides of the tang. Looked to be fluid steel barrels. The F grade was ok. The engraving wasn't like Silvers, just scroll work. They had a wire tie around the action, so couldn't look to see if it has bushings. Hard to make out the serial numbe on the trigger guard. Had early patent dates in front of the trigger guard. The E grade was nice, nice Damascus pattern, great wood, and the engraving was a pointing dog with scroll work on the sidelocks. Underneath was more scrollwork and the screws were nicely engraved. The "flute" on this one was different from the others and of Silvers. This one had what looked like a modified fluer de lieu on it. Very nice detail. The price was $800.
On the downside, I took the forend off and the serial number didn't match the trigger guard. Serial number on trigger guard 18064, and forend was 22xxx, I didn't write it down. Forend was worn, some dents, but had a metal push button release and a metal escutcheon on the tip. I'm sure someone will post what the year was and if it was the right period forend.
If I didn't like LCS's as much this would definetly be a contender.

I also have and E grade Lefever, 15000 range with bushed firing pins and the long grip tang that extends to the grip cap.
Never know what you might find!

I have a G grade (155xx) with bushed firing pins and a suare cut tang. It is being rebuilt as it was on the junker list at the local gun shop. So far so good. I really like the F grade guns. JAS

The garden variety horizontal flute or cove below the topline of the comb is not identical to the little fillip on the Lefevers. The first follows naturally from an attempt to "thin" the thumbhole area just above the wrist and extend the topline of the wrist as a "shadow" line onto the stock. The diagonal indent on the Lefevers is a distinct feature with the purpose of placing a bead or button on the end of the comb. The lighting in Silver's photo could not make this any clearer.

Neither of my Syracuse Lefevers (G & F) has bushed firing pins. Is this a factory feature or an aftermarket one? If the bushed pins are factory, does anyone have any information why that was introduced and why it was discontinued?

The bushings on the 1895 pictured here seem a bit odd. The retaining screw on the one bushing impinges on its screw slot. Seems like the factory would index the slots so they would both have the same orientation. Then again... maybe not.

I was at Cabelas a few months ago and saw the mismatched E grade that was there at that time. I don't remember it being as nice as stated above. But I do remember the stock seemed a bit short. But then again maybe I hadn't enough coffee that morning... Silvers
