I went to Auction yesterday and came home with a Lovena 16ga hammergun. I need some help with the strings of numbers on the gun. On the watertable, 333.6.37.. On the barrel flats 333.6.37.. On the under rib between the flats and forend lug, 1272.9291/37 and forward of the forend lug 397.37.16.9.
I'm thinking the proop year is 1937(?), but this is quite late for a hammergun?
The top of the barrels are stamped Lovena, Praha, and Bohler-Blitzstahl. Barrels are 27 1/2", bores are bright, no pittd, measures .663", choked .020 and .025.

Any help with the proofs would be very welcome. Thanks

Oh, another Lovely Lovena. Jerry she began life in 1925 in Ferlach and was fitted with a new set of tubes in 1937 in Weipert/(later Brno). Without the original tubeset it may be difficult to ID the Ferlach mechanic.

Very nice gun, and a 16 ga. to boot. I would have thought it to be a bar action lock until you showed it.
I hope you never have to replace the mainspring.

Well, I guess I didn't answer your questions on the datastring. The preliminary datastring 397.37.16.9 was the 397th submission in 1937 and both tubes had a diameter of 16.9 mm. I'm not sure on the 1272.9291/37 unless it was some intermediate pass. And the final pass is the 3336.37 all with the 37 denoting the year and the house number is to prevent the proofhouse from knowing who is submitting, which might create a bias.
