Inadvertent miss or on purpose, sometimes they do. Sometimes I even apologize. My French Brittany Beau (now retired) had been flushing Saskatchewan huns all day. I made many loud complaints to him about it. He followed a covey down a draw, set them, and went on point. I fired twice during the five yard covey rise and missed. He chased the birds and then came back to the draw to look for stragglers. Pointed again. Missed twice at five yard flushes again. He looked at me funny, didn't even bother to chase the stragglers in case they were wounded. Checked for more stragglers, pointed again, I missed twice on a ten yard flush. I apologized and I swear he laughed at me.

The way it is going there will be very few local wild birds to hunt! Only birds that migrate! Bobby

You want grumpy? I'll give you grumpy.

So far, between work and no Sunday hunting in Maine, I have gotten in exactly 5 days and 2 hours of hunting this fall. Four of those days were a trip upcountry to a pheasant preserve (1/2 day plus driving for a full day) and three days at a lodge walking up grouse. One of the days was Thanksgiving, through about 1 pm. Two hours last Saturday in the snow working one cover with a friend and his English Setter that needed to do something besides sit, after chatting up the landowner for the better part of 45 minutes. The dog found something and pointed, but whatever it was stayed under an impenetrable brushpile. And I got zapped by the electric fence that the landowner swore was turned off.

Didn't even bother to buy a turkey permit.

My duck stamps are somewhere on the desk - they won't be needed for sure.

Complain all you want. At least you aren't sitting in an office staring at a screen or, like I'm doing now, riding home on a train. You're getting out in the field.

Chuck, the Santa Ana Mtns. just got an inch, but I see NO rain recorded at New Cuyama or in Frazier Park area. Sad. Tempted to try up there anyway. (YES, on the grumpiness....need a "walk" away from blacktop and strip malls.).

I make it a rule to not pee on a e-fence no matter if it's on or off.

Boy them gold bricks you bring home from work get heavy don't they. You want grumpy, I had to pass on a hunting trip to South Dakota because, without a steady job, I couldn't afford to go this year.
