the letter R stamped under each barrel indicates the gun was re proofed when the chambers were altered, according to a site i was on, that mark was used in london and birmingham, to indicate a repair had been doen and reproofing taken place, or that the gun was altered in some way that it required re proofing, its a wonderful little gun, im happy with it, now to finish my collection i need an american made sxs, of gd quality, parker, Fox, lc smith,, i have 2 remington 94�s, which i also dearly enjoy shooting, im located in nova scotia canada, i would trade a very valuable rifle i have for a shotgun in this list, of the equal value, i prefer them with damascus or twist barrels, just something alluring about them when you look at them

I don't think the letter "R" in this case is for reproof. I think the "R" would be stamped on the barrel flats. As mentioned earlier, the R may have something to do with whoever worked on the barrels.

Still some mysteries here. The R on the barrels, forward of the flats, does appear to have a crown along with it--which to me makes it more likely an indication of reproof. However, the sources I have indicate that the R for reproof didn't come into use until the Rules of 1925. And if that gun were proofed post-1925, then it would have some additional proofmarks it doesn't have.

Re choke on the L flat, not on the right: Does not necessarily mean cylinder, but it does mean very little choke. But it could be as much as .007 and still not be marked choke. .008 or more, had to be marked choke.
