It happened here, well, just across the river from me, in February of this year, in South Carolina. That remote controlled thingy didn't have a chance. Law enforcement was present, and had no problem with them taking it down.
Couple years ago I was at the same place at a flyer shoot when a helicopter kept circling the rings. A cameraman was leaning out of the chopper filming. The owner made one call to a congressman friend and the FAA called the chopper back to the airport it came from. We understood the pilot was threatened with the loss of his license.
