Very nice gun and I am really surprised at the cost of redoing this entire gun. If I understand you correctly, the entire cost for the wood work and metal work was in the $3,000 -$4,000 range? I have never had an old one reworked but that seems very reasonable to me and worthy of looking into. I also am attacted to guns that have a history behind them with a story to tell.

I'm not sure if the gun is a "Avant Tout" or not, I never asked, and I'm not sure if its a self opener, I'm thinking its not although it is easy to open. The ejector system on this Coggie is unlike any I have ever owned before. The entire mechanism is located inside a "box" underneath the barrels, The only ejector parts on the forend wood are the "kickers". What you describe is an Avant Tout system - it is an assisted opener, not a self-opener.

Thanks Jack. I did not know that. You learn something everyday. I should add that when I bought the gun, the seller did not inform me that the gun had been fitted with new barrels. The barrels were made and fitted by Charles Smith & Sons, Newark England. They did a fantastic job. While most people would be upset by this, I was actually pretty happy about it. Brand new barrels, 2 3/4" chambers proofed to shoot modern loads...I was planning on restoring the gun anyhow and the new barrels just seemed like an added bonus. The gun when I purchased it cost me less than a grand. The perfect foundation for a restoration/custom gun project.

Dustin, nice gun. What's the proof on those new barrels? Usually, they're proofed to shoot new CIP loads (850 bar proof) but not necessarily American factory loads.
