Anybody who has hunted chukars in the western big canyon country understands the value of a sling. Lots of climbing, up and down, makes the slign worth its weight in gold. I use a home made outfit of 550 cord, keep it in my pocket until I need it.

It makes lighting a cigar easier at the start of a two-mile walk back to the truck.

I went from no sling on anything to every single firearm except one having a really nice quality carrying strap...can't seem to do without it, now. STeve

Also quite useful when you need three hands - one for the gun, one for the dog, and one for holding on to something else.
When I used to smoke it came in really handy to have one, especially on breezy days.
Now, on to that old German photo - gotta wonder if those are the sorts of hunters the reporter who wrote that article in the NY Times today was hanging around with.

I spent two and a half years in Germany and saw very few hunters or firearms for that matter. I did not have "Gun Money" so it did not matter. I had "Beer Money" and in reflection I'm lucky none of the girls I knew had a firearm ;-).
