6878mm, not quite comparing apples with apples, when rough shooting in England it is fairly flat so gun in hand, dog ahead, no tough terrain, when driven shooting you have your loader, hell you don�t even carry the cartridge bag so no need for a sling but you say no slings on English doubles ?? you�ll see them on 99% of double rifles ! different terrain etc, a lot of Spaniards have them on doubles over here, best

If a gun has swivels it just looks naked without a sling.

Although I really hate sling swivels on a shotgun, I do often use a sling when duck hunting. I found this one at the Southern S x S Fall Classic last year and really like it. It goes on or off in seconds, and doesn't require ugly swivel mounts screwed into the wood.

Hi all, I have a couple with sling swivels and I do use slings in the winter. It's an easier carry across the fields when going thru snow from cover to cover. Also, as the snow hides all kinds of trip falls it's much better to use your hands to break your fall than your gun.

I hunt alone, with a Chessie, mostly. In a rocky-bed boulder and ledgey river. With a slung gun, staff and pack of dekes. Useful thing, then. Take it off once in place, or when trying to sneak up on Daffy and Tweetie Bird. Saw two turkey's blast off an island this eve, well within shooting distance, but water was waist deep, and it was just more satisfying to see them fly, than to drop everything and flail for the slung howitzer. Will return another day, with un-slung gun.

When I was around the Jager fraternity in FRG, they appeared to favor action open/gun broken single shoulder carry, then, in the ranges of forested hills surrounding the Fulda Gap. When I returned home, I had one of those double-loop slings that worked well, with one end around closed bbls/FE and the other around the grip/hand.

Shotgun Slings 'R Useful Tool, but easy to carelessly misuse in company. Simple answer is avoid human company. Makes the world a safer place, and eventually less populated, too.

I'm not conversant with "European" carry etiquette, but I do carry my rifles when hunting as Geo described, (but not my shotguns). Having control of the muzzle along with a quick method of putting the rifle in action, is both useful and safe. It is a carryover from an older military carry.
