3 tons is what the gun was proofed for, not the chamber length. It is most likely still 2 1/2" chambers, as 3 1/4 tons would usually be associated with 2 3/4" chambers. light 7/8 and 1 oz loads are called for

I am going to have to re measure or have an expert measure the forcing cones looks to me to be exstended which small bore said it would spoil the gun but the left barrel will turn a trap target into dust from the 27 when I hit them.

Any way I intend to use lite 2 1/2 loads which shoot fine just a little trouble.
The hurricane is going to distroy the food in my dove field and probably push them on.

Original proof for black powder between 1875 and 1887. Sleeved and then re-proved for 2 1/2" cartridges at 3 tons per square inch service pressure sometime between 1954 and 1989. If it has had the chambers lengthened at some time since I wouldn't use anything in it as it will have been materially weakened. If as suspected it has gone to 3 inches then just think where the extra metal has been honed out from; right up against where the sleeving joint is. If in any doubt then please, please have it checked before firing. Lagopus.....

Thanks too late! I stupidiously shot a box of 1 oz 2 3/4 first day I got it. I did use a choke guage and the chamber measured 2 3/4 or about that not 3 inches. The barrel was joined three inches from the end of the barrel.

I like the vintagers 1 oz loads 8s. It is a nice load for doves and will reach out on full choke. I highly reccomend them for doves.
