I just picked up an original F grade Lefever, 12 gauge with really great stock dimensions. The gun has this feature on the comb. Anyone know what it's called? Are these common on Lefevers? Thanks. Silvers

In most guns, it would be referred to as a "flute" or a "fluted comb". However, this is an odd one so maybe you are looking for a more specific term. What serial number range is this feature found?

Bill, this F grade is s/n 436xx. As always I appreciate your reply. Sometimes I (we) forget to acknowledge the outstanding tech expertise available on this and other double gun boards.

RGS, yes, I found this one last week and decided to go for it. The gun is a plain F, not FE, and it has great (for me) stock dims. 1-7/16 dac and 2-3/8 dah. It's a little short for me at 14-1/4" lop but I'll be using it for waterfowl and foxes with heavy clothes on, so that will work well.

Here's some pics of the sideplates.

I have to say that the birds look much better/authentic than the cartoon characters that were on a DHE Parker I once owned. Silvers

I think my friend from Northern Virginia is blowing smoke! Better get home and open a bottle of the fine Argentine wine.

I don't know what ir was called but it also seems to be a feature on higher grade Baltimore Arms Co. guns.

Frank,
Very nice, Congratulations. I am envious. You should see the crap I've seen. The F grade in Hamburg makes anything else I've seen look bad.

Bill, that has to be pretty bad when you say the Hamburg gun is good in comparison. I'll keep you in mind if I come across a lighter gun. As I wrote to you, I like the heavier ones. This one weighs 7-13.

I've had this F grade sitting in the corner of the room for a couple of days now. I keep picking it up and sighting down the barrels. It does come up well. Silvers

Looked at my FE; has same sort of flute. In plan view it looks like a finial atop a post or even a drop point. The Balto above gives the same appearance if you look for it. Why are the firing pin retaining screws on Silvers' action not slotted?

Rabbit, yes I just noticed that. This is my second Lefever. So I don't know that much about them. My #1 gun has screws to retain the firing pins. Maybe this one has a pin(s) instead of small screws? Silvers
