New forum member. I picked up some Farquharson rifles the other day. 2 are Gibbs, one is a Jeffery. One of the Gibbs is an old military gun, it has the rod under the barrel (what is that for?) and I am worried I may have paid too much for it. I was hoping for some guidance. The other two have had restoration work done on them. The Gibbs has probably been rebarreled but I think the Jeffery is original aside from the refurb work. They are being shipped so I should be able to post some pics next week. Any input will be appreciated.

is this a joke? your killing me with no pictures. Give me some pictures, I'll give you some good advice. Unless you paid LOTS of money you most likely did not pay too much. 974 Gibbs farkies made in all forms combined. They are rare and sought after, Jeffery's can be too, but they are no Gibbs.

Not a joke. I was not smart enough to not take a few quick pics. I was traveling when I came across them. They will be here next Wednesday or Thursday I hope. I will take pictures and post them then. The Gibbs that has been restored is beautifully engraved but the other has seen some abuse and is very plain. I believe it had Gibbs Medford stamped on the barrel. Gibbs on the action.

I almost bought the 30/40 krag. I think it is a 6.5x57. And yes, I think it was a good day assuming I did not pay too much!

well the one listed as a Krag was priced very right. If you paid in that area you are doing fine.

Paid a little less and it has a claw mounted Zeiss, half that for the Jeffery. I am thinking the military one was expensive only compared to what I paid for the Jeffery but if I ever decided to do a ground up build on a Farquharson action...well the price did not seem that bad. There was a really rough Alexander Henry SS there as well.
