This crest is on an unusual gun marked Schwartz Bros. in Luxemburg. Can anyone say what the initials are and what order they should be viewed ? The making of the gun was obviously quite an effort.

C V A
I'd say viewed in that order,,
C is overlapped at multiple points by both the V and A
Then as reading left to right,,the V is shown prominent (left side of the letter), then the A (right side of the letter).

The arguement for a monogram of 'cAv' can also be given. But as the 'A' isn't that prominent/bold as a last name initial centered should be IMHO, it's appearence of being a touch larger than the V helps the point. But it's not enough to go that direction I don't think.

AVC just because of the amount of over lap on each letter.

I can't help with the initials, but I would very much like to see some pictures of the whole gun.

Could it be a Y instead of a V?

I don't think so. I have numerous books full of monograms and cyphers that show that loop at the bottom of a V when used used with interlocking letters.

Thanks for the help. Now to find what the initials stand for. Shane, here's a couple more pics.

Here's another crest on another gun, but surely the same maker. Can you help on these letters , that seem a bit harder? Sorry, I don't own this gun, so it's the best picture I can get.

For those of you who might be interested in solving the riddle of the second crest just above, there is strong evidence that the gun was made for Dr. J A Vosburgh.
