Kutter, Check the muzzle of your rifle for a tiny SS. If one is present, the barrel hasn't been cut. Just a suggestion. Mike The narrow front sight insert bead dovetails in from the front/muzzle end of the rib. I'll dig the rifle out and examine it better. About time I took it out to shoot again anyway. It's been a while! Thanks for all the info.

Kutter, Your front sight is another sign that the barrel might not have been cut, at least not in US. Mike

I have the rifle on hold - along with another similar German Sporter in 8x57 labeled DAS, and A Westley Richards Martini Action "Sherwood". Any one want to buy a kidney ?

[O.T.] Postoak I just have to ask, I've been wondering for months... what's the deal with the line from "Ramble On" by LED ZEPPELIN? Is it to be taken literally, opere citato or is it used as a double' entendre', such as "Live Free or Die"? We listened to that album in Vietnam in 1970 when we came off S&D MISSIONS and that line never struck me as being evocative of a declarative homage to personal freedom. I was just wondering what you thought? Brings back memories of Sunny Southeast Asia! Best Wishes Jerry

I suppose it strikes me as fitting my Journey thru life, and my experiences.

Postoak: Strangely I know exactly what you mean! Long before the movie "Braveheart" was released, my father who left school during the Depression and fought throughout the Pacific used to quote William Wallace when I was a small boy. "Every man dies, but not every man really lives!". It became my mantra, especially after being wounded in Vietnam at age 19 on my second combat tour. So I do understand, though it can't be conveyed in simple terms. Enjoy the journey, it makes the getting there all the more worthwhile. Jerry

Postoak is the WR Martini in .300 Sherwood or is "Sherwood" a model name? I'd be interested to know more about it if you get it, especially if it is .300 Sherwood. Always wondered what that cartridge was "for," and if it did its job (whatever that was) well.

Mike A., The 300 Sherwood would be useable for hunting Roe Deer, which weigh 35-45 pounds, and other small game. Mike

The only thing I vividly remember listening to in RVN back in 1965 was the Beatles' "It Won't Be Long Now," which in my case I took to mean until my departure date, November 10.
Wouldn't you know it, it had started to cool down by then. Only about 90 degrees F. at night.
Considering the Zeppelins didn't exist before 1968, I suppose that's not surprising.
