Also, I don't think the owner will want to sell it and I know that the gun will have to be appraised for definitive value but I was just wondering out of curiousity do any of you guys that are familiar with beretta's have any idea of what custom ones are worth or what range they go in. Also can anyone appraise it or does it need to be done by someone that specializes in hammerguns or SxS's or beretta's, etc. Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to help the owner as much as possible and am also really curious of this gun and trying to figure it and its story out. Thank you all.

I think this shotgun could be BERETTA 405 Speciale in caliber 32. You can find the picture in Wilson`s book page 76, the bottom one in picture.

It looks like it it a 32 gauge if I read the choke marking right. 12.9 mm in inches is 0.507874, 13.0mm in inches is 0.511811. A 32 bore is 0.526, a 28 bore is 0.550. and the misnamed .410, often thought of as .410 gauge is most nearly a 67 bore which is .411.
Easy way to check is drop a .410 shell in the chamber. If it is too small that rules out the .410. I suspect a 28 shell will be too large.
You still have very nice gun but in what to many is an odd gauge, somewhat limited in use due to small shot load. Fiocchi use to make 32 shells loaded with 1/2 ounce shot which is the standard .410 2 1/2" load. Who ever can afford that gun can afford to have a few cases of shells imported to shoot it. If I owned it it would be my opening day dove gun as long as shells last. A neat looking gun that would be a hoot to shoot.

There is frustration with beretta models and changes not being well documented anywhere. Beretta used importers prior to setting up Beretta USA and their models were not consistent between the US importer and guns Beretta was selling in Europe. It is also difficult to get information on particular models. From your latest pics there isn't a model marking on the gun. Hopefully, you can get a response from Beretta. You may also want to contact the Beretta gallery in New York. Ken

Clearly from Beretta's custom shop - the barrels alone would indicate that (BOEHLER ANTINIT STEEL, used only on Beretta's finest guns), as well as the overall quality and quality of engraving.
If it's a 32 gauge, all the more special.

In 1980 the top of the guns were the SO3EELL sidelock over and under. The 451EELL in a hammerless sidelock side-by-side. RL Wilson's book (World of Beretta) shows presentation hammer guns similar to the yours. However, no real model name. This is very common for Beretta and has been discussed here before. Take Jaycee's advice and contact Beretta directly. Pete I emailed the lady mentioned, hoping she gets back to me with some more definitive info. Thanks guys.
