Mike, you're a bit over my head with the BF and I think the other was BB. Evidently those are....initials(?)...for German side by side or over/under?
This will probably be the last informative post on the 10.5 X 47R load development as I have it where I like it. I expect some development with smokeless powders and Hawk bullets would be interesting but I doubt it would prove any more to me than what I already suspect and past experience indicates. That is that the group would tighten a little, probably to around 1 1/2 in. at 50 yards...which is a good thing...but not worth the added expense and effort. I'll take my 2 1/8 group at 50 yards with Fffg and cast bullets.
Ok..Saturday morning early I set up my Pact chrono and fired 3 rounds through the screens. Average velocity of the 62 grs. Fffg Scheutzen under the 270 gr. Accurate Mold bullet was 1379 with a high of 1390 and a low of 1369. Extreme spread was 21 fps, Average Deviation was 7.6 and Standard Deviation was 10.8 fps. Calculated energy was 1140 fpe at 10 ft. from the muzzle.
After acquiring that data I set up a target at 100 yards to shoot a 5 shot group and save the last two for my steel buffalo target....did I mention I really like to whack steel? As per advice I let the barrel cool for about 10 minutes between shots. I tell ya what, if I could see I believe the old rifle would turn in a sub 4 inch group at 100. When all the stars in the sky and leaves on the trees were aligned I put two shots in the 10 ring. The remaining 3 were at the bottom edge of the 5 ring clustered into a 3 inch group.
My range faces east and my bench is in the open. My 100 yard target is in the woods, read that shade, and I had the devils own time acquiring a good sight picture on target. I had my usual piece of electricians tape with a hole punched in it of about 1/8 in. and stuck to my glasses lense. Even if conditions were perfect I doubt I could hold any better than 4 inches with the sights on the gun. The front sight is almost a Patridge style except that on top it has a nub akin to an arrowhead and only about 1/16 to 3/32 wide...I've never seen that before. It sure messes with my sight picture and I've thought of filing it off....but doubt I will. Anyway, that's the results of the 10.5 X 47R!! Brass hulls for the 16 bore are primed and awaiting the orund ball mold.
Speaking of which....Seyfried mentions a 3-4 dram load for the 16 bore shooting a round ball. Does anyone have any more or better information on loading for it? Thanks!!!!
